Qigong, (pronounced Chee-Gung) is an ancient Chinese system of gentle exercise based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Qi (or Chee) is the energy that flows through everything including us , and Gong just means exercise. So the word means to work with our internal energy via the meridians or channels that carry the qi around our bodies, and points on those channels which form the basis of acupuncture. The movements are easy and natural and are combined with breathing and alignment of acupuncture points to create beautiful health-enhancing routines that are fun and relaxing to perform and fascinating to watch.

Regular practice of this soft, gentle, relaxing and therapeutic art will help to calm the mind and increase flexibility, co-ordination and the function of the internal organs. It helps to alleviate stress and many related ailments. There are many health benefits, including posture, balance, mobility, coordination and relaxation, and many more. It is particularly beneficial for older people.

Students begin with simple single exercises, incorporating gentle breathing. Most exercises are well known authentic ancient Chinese forms. Others are created by Julian Wilde of the Norwich Chen Taiji School after 25 years study of the Chinese internal skills.
